Lord Kartikeya, also known as Skanda or Murugan, is the god of war and the commander of the celestial army. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and the brother of Lord Ganesha. Kartikeya is depicted as a youthful, radiant god riding a peacock and carrying a spear (Vel). He is especially worshipped in South India and by devotees seeking courage, wisdom, and victory.
