Pioneer of Vishishtadvaita Vedanta and path of loving surrender to the divine.
Ramanujacharya was a saint-philosopher who taught that God is both personal and supreme, and that the soul is both distinct and yet part of the divine — like a spark from fire. Born in Tamil Nadu, he devoted himself to the service of Lord Vishnu and laid the foundation for the Sri Vaishnava tradition. He traveled extensively, spreading a message of devotion, humility, and equality. At a time when temple access was limited, Ramanuja opened the gates of devotion to all, regardless of caste or status. His vision of loving surrender (prapatti) made the divine approachable, emotional, and real for millions. His heart overflowed with karuna (compassion) — he even revealed sacred mantras to uplift others, saying, 'If this helps them attain salvation, let me face the consequences.' Ramanuja lived over 120 years, leaving behind a rich legacy of inclusive devotion, spiritual reform, and philosophical depth.
