Sant Bahinabai Ji was born in a Brahmin family in Maharashtra and lived a life filled with hardship. Married at a young age to a much older husband who did not support her devotion, she found solace only in her Lord Vitthala. Her poems are deeply personal, reflecting the struggles of a woman torn between duty and divine longing. Despite ridicule and emotional pain, she continued to express her love for Vitthala through poignant abhangas, blending grief, humility, and surrender. Her spiritual guru, Tukaram Maharaj, inspired her to rise above worldly bondage. Bahinabai’s life teaches that devotion does not need a temple—it only needs a heart that refuses to let go of God, no matter how dark the path.
